A transcription of the mezuza in the Cave of Machpela – main entrance.
(בראשית ב’ 10) “וְנָהָר יֹצֵא מֵעֵדֶן לְהַשְׁקוֹת אֶת הַגָּן”
“And a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden…” (Genesis 2:10)
In 2016, artist Assaf Kidron was chosen to design and create stone mezuzahs for the Cave of Machpela.
The artwork is entitled “Gateway to the Garden of Eden.”
This mezuzah case was inspired by writings in the holy Book of Zohar stating that the
Cave of Machpela is the gateway to the Garden of Eden.
The Cave of Machpela is the most ancient burial site in the history of the Jewish people. The patriarchs and matriarchs of the Jewish people are buried there.
